What if students could experience mathematics before being asked to solve it on a worksheet? The Fear No Number Road Show brings Akin Alston directly to Puget Sound area schools and classrooms for an engaging, hands-on math experience designed for students in grades 3–5.
With more than 30 years in mathematics education, Akin is a master teacher, mathematics educator, and the architect of the MAP™ (Mathematics Access Pathway) system. Through his work with Seattle Public Schools, Philadelphia Public Schools, Highline Public Schools, North Seattle College, and other educational communities, Akin has developed a powerful approach to helping students see mathematics differently.
Experience Math Hands-on
During the Road Show, students don't just listen. They test, predict, question, and reason. Akin uses engaging mathematical devices and hands-on challenges to help students discover mathematical ideas before formally naming the concepts behind them.
From exploring place value with an abacus to discovering multiplication with Napier's Bones, investigating speed and motion, experimenting with ramps, or solving the Tower of Hanoi, students are encouraged to make predictions, defend their thinking, and change their ideas based on what they discover.
No worksheets. No lectures. Just mathematics in action.
