About Us

Akin Alston is the architect of MAP™ and Founder of Engageable Designs. With 30 years in mathematics education, partnerships across Seattle Public Schools, Philadelphia Public Schools, Highline Public Schools, and university positions at North Seattle College and Seattle University, he has built a working system to boost math confidence in children and adults across the Pacific Northwest.

Akin is known to have an innovative, charismatic, and unconventional approach to mathematics teaching and learning. He is constantly developing new community-based initiatives and services to support higher mathematics achievement in communities of color. Alston works continually to develop professional relationships with an extensive network of educators, legislators, advocates, and professionals in many STEM relevant fields. He dreams of a nationwide mathematics renaissance where students simply learn the love of doing mathematics.

Akin is currently working with Panther Lake Elementary School, Ashé Preparatory Academy, and Estelita's Library as a math specialist.
